Comic Book Case

Starfire #5 (Dolphins, Murder, and Cancer!?)

This issue was actually pretty fun, like the rest of the book has been. With Starfire getting a job at the aquarium because she can communicate with Dolphins and Sol's (the guy whose eyes kept glowing) backstory revealed. I really am liking how this book does like to tell different stories in small snippets. Starfire has a nice two page story where she releases one of small alien things that live on her desk, while Kragg Gorn Kee is on his way to Earth to hunt and kill Starfire and gets threatened by members of the Citadel who hired him. It's really sold on the idea that Starfire is foreign to this planet and the story is still primarily focused on showing her trying to join Earth society. Lot of osight gags primarily in Starfire not understanding Atlee's phrases like "up her butt". It's a fun book and with the mystery of Sol's new powers tying with his history finally starting I find myself genuinely excited for the next issue.

Batman #45 (Bruce still being awesome and Gordon being Gordon)

I never thought I'd see the day when Bruce Wayne becomes infinitely more interesting that Batman or that I'd be able to say it. While Gordon is trying to find out info about Bloom, Bruce finds himself trying to deal with the creations the Joker left behind in "Endgame" that the city won't remove, namely the t-rex. This makes Bruce feel like the kids at the center don't feel really safe and Julie says that he makes the kids feel safe, which is what he's always been able to do. Gordon meanwhile has to deal with the fact that Powers wants to replace Gordon because of his blunder with another gang that almost got him killed and it was all over the news. The problem with this issue is that Bruce is still stealing the show here and is making greater strides to make a difference where it feels that Gordon is legitimately holding a place for Bruce and I kind of wonder if one of the new elements the Powers Corporation created will play a role in getting his memories back. I'm really starting to think that if anyone really wants to enjoy Gordon as Batman, they should probably just stick to Batman Detective Comics.

Justice League United #15 (Everybody's doing something and I love it but then what?)

So despite this cover, Stargirl and Batgirl don't do anything of any real note, let alone are they together. Cliff Steel and John Henry try to retrieve Stargirl's staff after it pierces a soldier we later find to be G.I. Zombie, part of the Creature Commandos with Frankenstein. There isn't a lot to be said there save for showing a bigger scope of how big this war zone is. Vandal Savage and Batgirl both end up in Germany where Batgirl seems to learn a bit something interesting about Savage's history and why he left Germany during the war. Stargirl meanwhile travels with the pilot who almost hit her. We find out a bit more about what's going on as someone keeps leaving food and other materials that he needs which compliments the U.S. soldier who tells Savage that they've been fighting and killing the same guys for ages. Maybe someone can help me, who is the guy at the end? I feel like I should know him.

Earth 2 Society #5 (The HELL!)

So we got a really great story from the Flash this issue and I find that just fun because it was REALLY GOOD! Jay Garrick was the first hero we see in Earth 2 but as the story progressed he fell further into the background. This issue shows us how he's pretty much been working harder than anyone and reminds of something that we only saw early in the first issue, that he was still a kid. He hasn't had time to really let anything sink in or just to have any form of fun. Grayson, Val, Kara, Huntress, Red Arrow, Jimmy Olsen, and Kendra are all adults or have more training in this while Jay is still nineteen. I thought I would hate it but he's literally been running himself ragged since they landed trying to help people. This issue is really him bringing himself out of that isolation he put himself in, he actually tried this time as opposed to just giving up after failing once. With the reveal of who was behind Overwatch crashing (who I won't dare reveal other than say IT'S JIMMY OLSEN!) This was such a good story and this book is much better than World's End. People nee dto read Earth 2 and Earth 2 Society more.

*On another note, there will be no review of Green Lantern: Lost Army, due to newer titles showing up but it will continue later on where I'll review everything going on in the books up until that point. Batman Eternal will be reviewed every 5 issues as opposed to one after another.
