Comic Book Case

Batman and Robin Eternal #1 (Here we go again)
As someone who read Batman Eternal I was a bit skeptical and a bit irritated that this was happening again. This wasn't because it was bad though there were some problems with it, the problem was it was a weekly book that constantly had different writers, artists, and story points. It's magnitude was too much and too expensive long term to really appreciate at first. To make it easier, I'll probably only update this sparingly and go full updates with everything that has happened leading up to the issue. Batman and Robin Eternal does looks awesome in it's first issue. With Dick Grayson returning to Gotham along with Tim Drake, Jason Todd, and even Harper Row playing a role, this promises to be interesting at least. In a way this book is a bit like Identity Crisis, where a case in the past becomes more relevant, in this case, the first big case of Dick's career as Robin turned out to be more than he ever realized and is apparently a dark moment in Bruce's life. We also got to see CASSANDRA CAIN (the second Batgirl after Barbara if we don't count the stint Huntress had), a character we hand't seen since before the reboot and she looks awesome. I can't help but wonder what this means for Barbara, though it could be nothing. This book promises to be something worthwhile and I recommend keeping a cautious eye on it.

Star Wars #10 (Fancy set up, hope it pays off)
Luke is now in the arena, Chewie and 3P0 are looking for him on Nar Shaddaa, and our trio of Han, Leia, and Sana are on their way after some bantering. This issue was primarily about set up and it really is more enjoyable than most books that do this. The pieces are moving into place with Luke staying to get to the Holocrons, and everyone else is trying to rescue him. The Gamemaster seems fun enough and I would like to see him train Luke more if for no other reason than to actually see it as Luke's lightsaber training was never really seen in the films and one of the reasons people liked the comics and other EU materials because Luke Skywalker later becomes one of the most OP Jedi ever. But possibly the most enjoyable parts of this book were the scenes where Chewbacca just kept beating people and droids up to get them to talk, it almost makes me want to read his own book.

Doctor Strange #1 (WHOOO!)
Marvel and I have a rather complicated relationship. I'm clearly a bigger DC fan but I do like characters from Marvel (I read Thor God of Thunder, Goddess of Thunder, All New/Uncanny X-Men and She-Hul and I plan to review them) and Doctor Strange is one of them. I'm not an expert on his books but I've always liked the character as a whole, primarily just from seeing him in Civil War and I've picked up books here and there. This was interesting and it was clear this issue was meant for newer fans to the character as it spends most of it's time with some really good internal monologues from Strange.  It feels like Harry Dresden meets Doctor House and the visuals of this book are just awesome, it's by the same guy who gave us the really fun artwork in Uncanny X-Men and this book (which relies more on surreal images than big flashy ones) really shows some fun range. I cannot wait to keep reading this as we find a woman who has demons called Soul Eaters coming out of a woman's scalp which may have ties to the "Coming Slaughter" that was mentioned earlier on. Love this book already.
