World of Who: Knock Knock

Doctor Who and horror are old friends, going as far back as most people can remember and I've honestly never been afraid of the show when it does it so much as I've been surprised and it isn't a genres I care for.  When this episode was announced I honestly didn't know how to feel though I did know I really wanted to see it if for no other reason than to see David Suchet back on screen, something I haven't seen since I watched Poirot (which is something you should watch if you haven't). I did like how the episode had such a simple premise which was a bunch of college kids are looking for a place to live and they get more than they bargained for. Very little in this episode didn't work and it may be my favorite so far though I felt it came off a bit too much like the movie Monster House which I didn't like.

The mystery itself was good and the way the house acted like something that could be controlled but not fully was great. While the supporting cast was decent, I still don't remember any of them save for the one guy who was crushing on Bill. Bill herself I want to give points to as she seemed like the first companion in New Who who felt like they were really trying for the sense of normalcy. Clara tried this in "The Caretaker" but it felt bad because of either the script or the story as a whole. The Doctor and the Landlord I felt stole the show with the Doctor effectively trying to figure out exactly what is going and didn't take too much away from Bill trying to figure it out as well, he feels very much like a mentor to her. The Landlord was a great tragic villain, a boy going through everything to save his mother.

We get another scene with the vault but this time with the Doctor and the vault. The Doctor even goes in but we don't see it. I'm really starting to think that it could be the Master in there as the Doctor tempts who or whatever is in there with the idea of dying children and the Master has always been that kind of crazy.

Overall, this episode and Thin Ice have become my favorites but we still haven't gotten to the Mathieson episode and his are usually really good.
