Comic Book Case

Batman #44
This issue was honestly not what I thought it was going to be or what was promised. The synopsis really talked about getting the origin of Mr. Bloom. While we didn't get that we got a story instead about Batman's earlier cases shortly after Zero Year involving the death of a young black kid found dead. It's a bit more social commentary than anything else and it is nice to see this kind of thing again from DC but still it feels like it could have been saved for an annual issue. Mr. Bloom does play a significant role but despite being seen, you could almost miss him, if anything it really only shows that Mr. Bloom has been around along time, presumably in one of the older parts of Gotham City from Zero Year.. As good as this story was and the impact it has on Bruce as Batman, it doesn't feel like it does anything towards the story with Gordon since he has no way to access it.

Earth 2 Society #4
This was a really good issue explaining what Kara and Val had been doing and what some other heroes were doing as Batman seeks Superman out about the murder of Terry Sloan. Finding out that Earth has two rotating suns, one that is red adds an interesting angle to the Kryptonians as they build their own cities and get reconnected. It also seems to be more implied that the group itself has had some sort of small falling out with Batman and Flash having a slightly heated personal argument. The issue really does remind you that they aren't the heroes from our Earth. Batman isn't the professional Bruce Wayne and Flash isn't the carefree Barry Allen and Superman isn't Clark Kent. This is something that the series has tried to do but this puts it more to the front. This is what I think should happen when we do something like a Black Superman, he's a different and unique character. Kara and Val's issue involving Clark's death and role he played does give credence to why Batman would think he killed Terry Sloan.

Justice League United #13
This issue was pretty fun and hopefully will be longer than the last one. With Steel, Batgirl, Vandal Savage, Stargirl, and Robotman investigating one of the many anomalies throughout the world and we even have an explanation about why they don't tell the Justice League about the problems because they can't say "They're busy fighting Darkseid". There aren't a lot of interactions between the characters save Batgirl and Stargirl having some interactions and I'd like to see more between the characters but this seems to be more Savage's story. The idea is also really solid, a bunch of armies from different wars all over Europe trapped in the Breaker as Alanna calls it, completely unaware of each other or their situation as they keep soldiering on. Vandal Savage, who hasn't been seen since a flashback in Trinity War and Steel who I think has only been seen in Batman and Superman. It looks really fun.

Starfire #4
This may have been my favorite comic this month so far and it really gave a lot. I'm hoping to see more of Atlee in this book and with a Bounty Hunter soon to be on Star's trail I feel she will be needed all the more. Her backs story is really interesting with her coming from a society that lives underground and like Starfire hasn't had a lot of choices in her life. It seems like we are building Starfire's universe from the ground up this time and I enjoy where it's going and I kind of which we did the same to characters like Stargirl and Miiyabhin. It does kind of feel like a fusion of sitcoms and super heroes, a bit like She-Hulk but downplayed a bit with the character gallery. Like Doctor Fate, I hope we will see the iteration of the character more.
