Comic Book Case

Welcome back to Comic Book Case on it's new schedule of every two weeks! Some fun stuff so far! On another note, I don't think I'm going to go over everything in the book but just give a synopsis combined with how I felt about it. I don't like spoiling things for people.

Green Lantern #43
While interesting still, the best thing about this is the return of Relic, who I admit I'm still not crazy about but it may have been the idea of the emotional energy being a finite resource. But it makes sense to see him here and with a young Relic in Lost Army it does seem like the two books will convene at some point. Seeing how Black Hand is essentially infecting planets when he tries to turn the dead/dying to Black Lanterns and they turn to stone is interesting, especially with how they tie it into the Source Wall. We also get some fun and interesting stuff with the gauntlet Hal uses, which may end up being my favorite device in the GL universe, it actually makes me want to reread the Krona story again.

Batman #43
This issue introduces our new villain Mr. Bloom who his responsible for Gordon's recent fight against a criminal with superpowers in the form of seeds. He seems extremely interesting and even creepy with fans calling him either Slenderman or the Jokers new form. But sadly I think the entire issue is bogged down by the reveal of Bruce Wayne, who we find out has no memory of being Btman or of his fifteen years of training to be Batman. The Dionesium that revived him in Endgame also altered the pathways of his brain, he has no memory of the tragedy that defines him or as Alfred said "He doesn't have the shadow." So we have a Bruce Wayne that CAN'T be Batman. I liked how Alfred is actually all right with it, believing that Gotham is finally giving back to the person it took so much from. It takes away too much from the story, especially when we see the machine that Bruce had been working on that he uses in Futures End. But Mr. Bloom is an amazing villain in his design and the idea of someoen upping the game via super power peddling is awesome.

Justice League United #12
It was interesting seeing this play out and I feel it was a bit lackluster until I remembered exactly what this book was about. Adam Strange picked a team that was designed specifically to accomplish this mission as opposed to other Justice League titles that rely on a set team most of the time. Etrigan, and Mea stole the show this issue though Mera has been on a role the whole story. I was a bit down with how underplayed Miyabin was, it seems like her story would have been really interesting but she really got lost in the other characters. Next issue will apparently feature Batgirl, and I think Steel as well as what is called a long lost DC Hero. I'm hoping this book will have a bigger story next time and maybe one that goes less smoothly and give more spotlight to the core members.

Darth Vader #8
As fun as this story was, I can't help but be glad that were focusing more on the power struggle between Vader and imperial leaders and seeing exactly what is going on after the destruction of the Death Star. Seeing this small kind of civil war within the Galactic Empire  I like Asphra and how she manipulates the bounty hunters but I honestly feel like her Indiana Jones like introduction would be better for her. What role she will actually play in this story isn't exactly unknown but so long as we get more of her murder droids I'm game.

Earth 2: Society #3
So in the Earth 2 books, one of the best things about it was Lois Lane and in this new issue Lois steals the show again. As interesting as the story is with Terry Sloan Terraforming the planet to make it more like their former one, seeing how Lois has adjusted takes the cake. Seeing how she felt out of place as machine for war before ultimately settling back into her role as a reporter and helper of the people trying to adjust to life by reuniting them with loved ones is awesome. It  shows Lois at her best. It is interesting to see how Flash and other heroes took to helping people build their own cities and houses and the mystery of who killed Terry Sloan promises to be awesome. I do like Terry's little speech early on about how much he's done for the good of them, building the ships, lifting them up from the dead world and he is still despised and Lois pointing out that Sloan was both a dictator and a protector among other things like hero and monster. Knowing that Terry never does anything without a reason, it's easy to believe that his actions were for a much greater purpose with Overwatch at the center.

Starfire #3

This issue really feels like the story is really getting underway.with a murder of people on cruise ship. Meanwhile Starfire seems to still be trying to adjust to life on the islands, finding out about cats and men buying her drinks at the bar wanting to hook up with her. It should be noted that one of the issues people had with Starfire and her promiscuity came up in Red Hood and the Outlaws where she seemed to just want to have sex. The problem was that Starfire doesn't live in our culture and Tamaranians are passionate and ruled more by emotion than reason. The problem was Red Hood and the Outlwas made her look very detached early on. This issue addresses that Starfire isn't familiar with how things are done on Earth and learning it, almost like this book is addressing it. I'm really glad that the monster we saw last issue is back and even more the mysterious waitress who says she's responsible for him and asks for Starfire's help.
