Wonder Woman Annual #1
I honestly though that Wonder Woman had an annual out during Azzaerelo’s run with her book so I was surpised when I saw this. For those of you that aren’t aware, in New 52 Wonder Woman’s origin was changed to making her the daughter of Queen Hippolyta and Zues and through a series of events becomes the new god of War and queen of the Themyscira. With Meredith and David Finch taking over her book we’ve been treated to Diana trying to balance out the life of queen, god, and Justice League member and caught in the middle seem the be the Amazons who feel like Diana is not only neglecting her duties but also betraying everything the Amazons stand for; hence Wonder Woman Annual #1.

Recently, an Amazon by the name of Derinoe has created what she believes to the perfect Amazon and named her Donna Troy who has been leading a revolt against Wonder Woman and killing off the male Amazons who were brought by Diana from Hephastus. It is a really interesting but short story, which I think is the problem. An Annual issue is usually to reinforce the current story; Batman Annual 1-3 have all supported the story that was going on at the time where this one just seemed to end the current story. I would have liked to see more interaction between Diana and Donna but instead it’s just kind of anti-climactic. Everything resolves itself so easily that I'm not sure if there was any point to it. The second story about Derinoe as a character was much more interesting, showing that her life has been ruined by men so her actions against the men living on Themyscira despite them being born from Amazonian women.

Green Lantern #41

Another moment of clarity, in Green Lantern #40 Hal Jordan has “betrayed” the Corp and is living a life on the run with a gauntlet that works as a ring without needing a charge. While saving a prince from imprisonment Hal finds out that Oa, the guardians, and all the Lanterns are literally gone. That is pretty much it other than some showing some fun stuff with Hal’s new gauntlet and new ship which is reminiscent of the ship Hal and Killowog used in the Green Lantern series on DC Nation. The problem is I honestly don’t know what’s going to happen because this is it’s own story coming out later this month.

Justice League #41
So the Darkseid War is starting now, something that was set up in Justice League #40 with exposition by the Anti-Monitor and Metron. Someone is killing off women named Myrina Black on the orders of Darkseid and Mister Miracle is doing everything he can to stop it. Meanwhile, Lex Luthor and Superman try to find out who was behind the attack on his life by trying to keep the meta human Neutron alive. Things get worse when a strange woman shows up (I won’t even tell you how she show’s up) attacking the league and claims to be an Amazon.
The story itself is really solid, we get thrown into the story pretty fast and I’m honestly excited for this arc especially after Trinity War ended up feeling like such a wasted story in the long run. The real meat of this story is definitely the internal dialogue from Mister Miracle and Wonder Woman as they not only talk about their lives but the team as a whole.

                                                           Star Wars #6
After a recent tussle with Darth Vader, Luke returns to Tatooine to hopefully figure out exactly who he is as a person. But someone else is on his trail as Vader tries to figure out the identity of the young man who blew up the Death Star and sends Bobba Fett to bring him before the Sith Lord.  Meanwhile, Han and Leia hide out from Imperials in the Monsua Nebula and meet up a woman who claims to have a special connection to Han.

When it comes to Star Wars as a comic, especially these I have to admit to caring more about Luke than Han and Leia. This and the other comics out now all take place shortly after the events of A New Hope so with that in mind we have a lot to work with and pick. Issue 6 really gets the ball rolling with Luke being pushed into a corner and ultimately reaching in to elude Fett while it seems Han and Leia’s story is just starting.

Darth Vader #6
As Vader fight the new creations of Clyo under the watch of the Emperor. As we see exactly what the mysterious scientist has been doing for the past two decades we find out more about exactly what the Emperor and Vader have been trying to do and Vader finds his position as Sidious’s apprentice in potential danger.  As Vader contemplates everything he has lost to get to this point, he seems almost completely morose until Fett delivers the identity of the young man who blew up the Death Star.

Darth Vader #6 is a bit of a fun read as the pieces that will ultimately go into Empire Strikes Back fall into place. Vader proves once again to be an interesting character as the tragic hero. I would have honestly liked to have seen more of Doctor Aphra and her droids to add a bit more to it because as good as Vader is, there is only so much he can do on his own. It was still a really good read.
